Based in Brighton on the UK’s south coast, fakeyourdeath cite the electronic, industrial, and post-hardcore genres – alongside bands like HEALTH and Youth Code – as musical influences. New single truth is all that and more, as you can hear below.

The song begins with a sparse, eerie soundscape before all hell breaks loose, thanks in part to Wayne Adams of Bear Bites Horse on production duties. The raw intensity of the vocals in the first ninety seconds or so are matched by an arrangement that recalls the heyday of Atari Teenage Riot and Ambassador21, percussion  and vocal led in an almost completely unvarnished fashion.

The harder, faster reaches of industrial electronics can sometimes veer into becoming a wall of undifferentiated noise, but that potential dead end is completely avoided on truth.

There’s a tonal change about ninety seconds in, as still as the eye of a hurricane, but that makes sense within the song as a whole. In combination with clarity of the production and arrangement, this shift allows the song – and the listener – to breathe during a tumultuous three minutes of glorious, life-enhancing noise.
