The track opens with a very grunge sound, spare and spiky, and that classic Seattle influence remains present throughout. But there’s also a very London/Britpop energy to the song. Tight, technical, and times pure art-punk, awash with attitude, and with a vocal performance to die for, Killing It breathes welcome new life into some familiar musical genres.
Singer Bex Morrison gave some background as to the meaning behind the lyrics. “Killing It is about feeling stuck and the flitting emotions between trying to make things okay and being on the verge of having a complete meltdown. The extreme up-and-down contradicting lyrical content is reflected throughout the song and as it progresses, falls more and more out of control.”
