With their debut EP Pleasurehead just released via Permanent Creeps, South London’s Gaygirl have given pride of place to the raucous Killing It from the EP. Listen to it on Soundcloud below.

The track opens with a very grunge sound, spare and spiky, and that classic Seattle influence remains present throughout. But there’s also a very London/Britpop energy to the song. Tight, technical, and times pure art-punk, awash with attitude, and with a vocal performance to die for, Killing It breathes welcome new life into some familiar musical genres.

Singer Bex Morrison gave some background as to the meaning behind the lyrics. “Killing It is about feeling stuck and the flitting emotions between trying to make things okay and being on the verge of having a complete meltdown. The extreme up-and-down contradicting lyrical content is reflected throughout the song and as it progresses, falls more and more out of control.”

You can catch up with Gaygirl over on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Pleasurehead and Killing It are out now and can also be streamed on Spotify.
