Guest Playlist: Emile Milgrim of Las Nubes

To tie in with the release of their rather excellent Tormentas Malsanas album, Emile Milgrim of Las Nubes has compiled this rocking mixtape for us. It’s a great insight to the crunchy riffs and deeply personal stories that unfold over the long player’s ten songs. Any playlist that features song by Metz, Porcelain, and Dry Cleaning is gonna rock hard and gets our vote!

Says Milgram about the playlist, “I can’t remember who we were talking to the other day, but we told them that one of the consistent things about our band’s relationship is listening to and sharing music with each other virtually non-stop. At one point we both worked in the same record store too, so that was extra-extra.”

“Another exciting way we experience (new/new to us) music together frequently is on tour. Whether it’s via bands on the same bill or bands we’ve toured with, so many of their sounds stick with us long after the tour is done. It’s simultaneously daunting and comforting to know that you’ll never run out of music to listen to, and it’s beautiful to have friends to go on that journey of discovery with. This is a genre-fluid mix of songs we’ve both had on repeat – some recent, some past-tense, and some just born.”

Says Milgrim’s bandmate Ale Campos about the album, “Tormentas Malsanas is a culmination of personal experiences I had first hand or felt second hand through the lives of my close friends and relatives over the span of five years. The feelings brought on by these experiences were charged, sometimes stagnant and unforgiving, much like the summers here in South Florida.”

“When it comes to expressing these personal narratives, I always felt that articulating them through the lens of nature was something that anyone could feel a connection to. A lot of these songs were written at a time when it felt like the world was going to end, which also presents a feeling of longing to return to something ‘normal’.”
