New Music: Knife Girl – The Good Times Are Coming Your Way

Though she’s been releasing music since 2013, Lili Aslo has seen a great response to her latest project, Knife Girl. In fact, she recently won YLE’s Newcomer of the Year. Check out her new single The Good Times Are Coming Your Way below.

The song will feature on Knife Girl’s debut album Uniform and is a bright indie bop of a tune, even factoring in the sometimes-darker moments within the lyrics.

The vocal melody brings in elements of pop and rock and the song marries indie banger to brassy pop in an highly engaging mix of sounds and colours. The overall feeling is one of positivity – if you’re having a rough time, The Good Times Are Coming Your Way offers five minutes of calm while you wait for better moments to arrive.

Reveals Aslo, “I wrote Good Times when I was really struggling with my mental health. The lyrics address the listener but also myself. I’m just sort of wishing that everything is gonna be okay, even though I can’t know for sure. I’m not religious, but I think it’s funny how we use a lot of religious phrases to wish people well, like “I’ll pray for you”, so that’s why that’s in there. The many layers of guitar, piano and brass work as the backbone of this track. I couldn’t have done this without the band.”
