New Music: LALKA – Cool Youth

Australian LALKA has followed her debut release Dare You To Love Me with the mesmerising dark art-electro track Cool Youth. With its distorted bass and masked opening vocals, it sets its stall out as being a left-field, almost confrontational take on pop with an overall sound that lives somewhere between the unsettling experimentalism of Fever Ray and the catchy rap immediacy of Die Antwoord.

LALKA views the musical and visual side of her work as being a unified concept, which you can tell from the video for Cool Youth; its neon gothick imagery a perfect foil for the song’s stunning mix of RnB and alt.electronica. If you’re in Brisbane, you can check out the launch party for Cool Youth and I’m guessing it’ll be something special if LALKA’s work so far is anything to go by!

You can find out more about LALKA over at her official website which has links to her social media and more. Cool Youth is out now, streaming on Soundcloud as well as Spotify and be sure to keep an eye on her YouTube account for some more visually stunning and provocative videos.
