New Music: London Plane – Francesco
Gothic music and attendant subcultures often incorporate various religious elements, including Christian concepts of good and evil. London Plane’s Francesco is inspired by the life of saint and mystic, Padre Pio. Watch the official video to uncover the result of that musical and spiritual exploration.
The song is heavy on the Bauhaus influences – the band says it was conceived in the wake of a cancelled Peter Murphy gig. The song embraces post-punk and electro sounds more than Bauhaus ever did, lightens up the dub undertones, and creates a more dancefloor-friendly approach to the dark sounds of the 80s. All in all, Francesco freshens up the genre, even as it stays faithful to so many of its staple elements.
Francesco is out now and is from London Plane’s forthcoming album B R I G H T B L A C K. Be sure to check the band out over on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter and give them some social media love as well as keeping up with news about the album.
