Music is an art form that revels in reinvention, fusion and demolishing boundaries. Scot Martha Hill delivers on that more eclectic side of things with her new track Spiders, which sees the Newcastle-based long-time musician releasing what is surprisingly her debut single alongside co-conspirator Ceitidh Mac.
Along with regular bandmates Diji Solanke, Nick Tyler and Cameron Clarke she’s created a sound that fashions a wonderful fusion of British folk with dreampop and southern gothic nuances, plus a great, poppy ear for melodies and hooks.
Catchy and confident, Spiders breathes new life in those genres, being respectful whilst recognising the need for new blood and new sounds. With a style that sits somewhere between Lauryn Hill and KT Tunstall, Martha Hill has a voice that would appeal in equal measure to those that love soul, folk and rock music.
