New Music: MOGY – iFLIRTD

With a new EP out later this year, MOGY indulges us with the washed and woven sounds of iFLIRTD.

Produced and mixed by Franco Reid, MOGY takes shoegaze in a direction that sees it skirt the edges of alt-rock and post-rock. The chorus is as unburdened as the guitars, as MOGY has an air of pleading in his voice, leading us to become increasingly engrossed in the details of a relationship that is unequal and possibly doomed.

It has a similar mix of directness and diffusion that you hear in the best numbers from Health and Telefon Tel Aviv, though iFLIRTD easily casts off any comparisons in industrial rock, thanks to its arcane shimmer.

iFLIRTD comes from a place of fear and anxiety,” states MOGY. “My greatest fear is death, so the words ‘I feel like I’m ready to die’ couldn’t really be further from the truth, but maybe when I’m with her the feeling is different.”

He continues, “[iFLIRTD is] the first track I recorded from Franco Reid back in Autumn 2024. Sometimes, when you hear an instrumental, you get this indescribable feeling of excitement and hope; all of a sudden, you’re 12 years old again, biking to the park to play Wembley. iFLIRTD had that in every essence.”

“It sounded fresh. Almost like it had a swagger about it, and recording over it gave me the same feeling. Somehow this song wasn’t in the OG track list, and in another world this song probably isn’t on the EP. Thank God we’re not in that world.

MOGY’s sorry, i’m late EP is set for release on the 5th of November. You can hear more of his music on Bandcamp and Spotify – check out MOGY on Instagram for other streaming options and EP updates.
