New Music: New Spell – Easier

San Francisco-based indie-pop duo New Spell recently dropped the third and final instalment of its Of Time EP series. A real highlight is the opener, the atmospheric electro of Easier.

You can pick up hints of trip-hop, though with a dreamlike shimmer, in the foundations of the track. Brooding bass lines, light synths, and a tight percussion set the scene for an exploration in emotion. Leanne Kelly’s vocals and lyrics have a very Kate Bush or Beth Gibbons quality to them, mysterious yet full of a knowing innocence, giving the track an otherworldly, pensive quality.
