New Music: Oski XD Doski – Gamma Worms

Miami-based Oski XD Doski say Gamma Worms is about “radioactive, brain-eating worms from outer space,” and that’s probably the most straightforward thing about it.

The overall lo-fi sensibility of Gamma Worms frames a widely sourced yet surprisingly cohesive melange of indie, folk, and post-punk influences.

It’s the result of a band very much doing their own thing, something to be valued in this day and age, but reference points for the track that come to mind are Devo, XTC, and Richard Dawson. The fact that none of those are anything like the other is an indication of how outside the box Oski XD Doski are musically.

Gamma Worms is accompanied by what the band terms a “no-budget avant-garde collage” video, which works incredibly well with the song’s tumbling tableau of sound.
