New Music: Riches of the Poor – Morning After

Berlin-based indie group Riches of the Poor drop their debut album The Long Way Down via German label Crocodile Tears Records, this coming June. They’ve released an atmospheric one-shot video for Morning After from the LP, which you can check out below.

The band name hints at a love of The Smiths, and you can pick up their influence in the guitar melody especially. But the vocals, while carrying a mournful edge, are far from maudlin. There’s a spiky edge to the track as well, and shades of post-rock and shoegaze, but the song has a robust and open sound – inviting and inventive – that is sure to captivate the listener.
