New Music: The Familiar – Starry Eyes

It’s almost five years now since we first covered The Familiar, and in all that time, they’ve never ceased to amaze us with their ability to reinvent and refresh their sound. New single Starry Eyes is a perfect example.

New York based Ruth Mirsky’s vocals drive the creative and emotional impulse of Starry Eyes, her performance growing in stature and impact, delivering the compelling emotional themes of the song in an increasingly outgoing style.

Along with her bandmate, Norwegian producer Mads Martinsen, Mirsky serves up a dark pop arrangement that is initially brooding, but builds into something upbeat and uplifting, as it looks to dreampop and electropop to draw the listener on.

It’s a heady brew indeed, and one that fans of Röyksopp, Robyn, and Tove Lo will find resonates with them.

Says the band, “Starry Eyes reflects on the possibility that even small elements can tip the balance either way, and that one person truly can make a difference in the world if they focus on the journey itself and moving forward rather than looking backward.”

Starry Eyes can be streamed and downloaded on Bandcamp and can also be heard on Apple Music and Deezer. Check out The Familiar over on Facebook and Instagram to discover the people behind the music, and keep in the loop with details of new music from this Transatlantic duo.
