New Music: Twin Temple – Nothing Matters
Devilish duo Twin Temples quickly bounced back from the Charley Crockett controversy to find a deserved wider audience for their Satanic Doo-Wop sound.
2027 will see them in an even stronger place, as they announce dates for another leg of their tour in support of the Doomed Lovers album. Helmed by Los Angeles-based husband-and-wife Alexandra and Zachary James, Twin Temple would easily be co-conspirators of the late David Lynch, were he still with us.
Like him, Twin Temple look at the faked perfection that was sold in the music and TV of 50s and 60s America and find the cracks and broken promises that were part of that Faustian bargain for prosperity.
Nothing Matters is the final track on, and the final single from, Doomed Lovers. It lets the duo run free with the classic country and lounge-pop they excel at, ramping up the emotional colour of the lyrics and the black and white angst of the protagonist, showing the underbelly of life in a way that echoes Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn. Twin Temple possess an image that shocks some but equally has its origins in the days when country and rock and roll shocked audiences; however, never lose sight of how divine the music is under all that theatre and excess.

Twin Temples said of the album on its release, “We wanted to push ourselves creatively and expand the production further than we have before, drawing inspiration from all our favorite classic American music of the late 50’s and early 60’s, and added in some Countrypolitan flair, even getting to work with a 37-piece orchestra, which has been a creative dream of ours for many years. We wanted to make something as beautiful as we possibly could – of course with our own dark spin on things.”
“The truth is, this album was made during one of the darkest periods of our lives. We had been struggling with grief, health issues, addiction, and depression. But day by day, going into Sunset Sound, making music with Shooter, Misty and all the incredible people who believed in us, slowly brought us back to life. We became alive again. And it reconnected us to why we fell in love with music in the first place.”
Doomed Lovers is out now on Pentagrammaton Records. For details on those live gigs as well as streaming options for the music of Twin Temple, head to Instagram or Facebook.
