Quite often the best, the most resonant music can be born from the most bleak times of our lives. That’s certainly the case for WRENN’s Craigslist Personals, a song born from the wreckage of a broken relationship.
Some lush country, Gothic and rock tones serve to heighten the layers of emotion and reflection that permeate the lyrics, which are both literate and very personal. With a vocal performance that bears a striking resemblance to singers like Harriet Wheeler, Ellie Rowsell, and Dolores O’Riordan, it amplifies the passion and pain expressed in the lyrics to devastating effect. If you’re hurting, this song is perfect for you: part healing and part hope, as well as being a momentary escape from reality.
WRENN says the song came from a place of pain and discovery: Craigslist Personals was quite literally a fever dream I had at 3 am. I had the flu, taken too much cough medicine, woke up at 3 am, and found myself in the stairwell of my parents’ house admitting to myself that I was still completely in love with my ex-girlfriend. We both were living through delusions at that point, and she absolutely would not examine the false narrative she has constructed in her head … the whole thing was like a poorly veiled personal add I’m not even sure she knew she was advertising. This song was everything I wish she could have truly heard. I hope everyone else can hear it.”
Craigslist Personals is out now and available to stream or download on all major platforms. Be sure to check out WRENN on her Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter accounts to keep up to date with news about the song, upcoming releases and more.
