New Music: Years of the Modern – Orbit (Around You)

Based in St. Catharines, Ontario, Years of the Modern (Amanda Lyn Parker, Jason Michael Edonel, and Lauren Roxann Leprich) may only be onto their fourth released track as a band, but on Orbit (Around You) they show signs of already developing an exciting and entrancing signature sound of their own.

The song sits neatly between rock and upbeat electronica, thanks in large part to Amanda Lyn Parker’s stunning vocal delivery and the group’s deft way with a melody. Parker’s bandmates knit synths and guitar together into a sound that will appeal to fans of fellow Canadian acts Parallels, The Birthday Massacre, and Austra, as the trio combine their different backgrounds – dream pop, synthpop, and indie rock – to great effect on Orbit (Around You).
