New Music: Keelan Mak – Brave Face
Breaking up with someone is never easy, but sometimes, something beautiful can be born from that pain. Brave Face – the title track of the upcoming EP from Keelan Mak – explores the leadup to and aftermath of a lover leaving.
The Melbourne-based artist brings a rare and raw sense of lightness and dignity to electronic pop on Brave Face. Like a pastel drawing built on a darker base, the song conveys moments of sadness in a confident and sensitive style. Who knew heartache could sound so wonderful? If you’re a fan of the emotionally literate pop of Troye Sivan, Ruel, or Asbjørn then be sure to add Keelan Mak to that list.
Says Keelan Make about the genesis of the track, “I wrote Brave Face sitting alone in the apartment that I lived in with my ex. He had left a few days before and it put me in a pretty rough place. Brave Face was an ode to the role I played for months”
The Brave Face EP will be released via [PIAS] Australia this October and will also feature Mak’s previous single Forever Ago. You can also listen to the Brave Face on Apple Music and Spotify.
