New Music: Animal Future – It’s a Scam

Colorado’s Animal Future tackle some timely topics in a sensitive yet hard-hitting manner on It’s a Scam.

There’s a raw energy behind it, one that hits hurricane-like proportions within the focused fury of the arrangement. Often building to a howl of alt-rock anger and grunge-driven noise and suddenly yet smoothly dropping to a whisper, it’s a complex and confident song.

That complexity is reflected in the possible influences on It’s a Scam: Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Paramore crop up due to the impassioned vocals of LeAnna Warren and the lyrics’ talk of struggle. There’s a versatility in the words that lets you interpret the song as being about mental health or trying to exist in a chaotic future and uncertain present. And that feeds right into the track itself, where echoes of Pixies and Nirvana carry the flag for guitars and drums that are emotive without being overly emotional.

It’s a Scam is out now via S/NC Records and can be heard on all major music platforms, including Spotify. The Fort Collins band is already lining up live dates for 2027 – check out their Instagram and Facebook feeds for all the latest news.
