New Music: The Nearly Deads – Relentless

Nashville’s The Nearly Deads became a viral sensation with their break-out zombie-infused music video for the single Never Look Back. New track Relentless shows that there’s still a lot of substance to the band and their music, which has kept their fans so loyal over the years.

It’s not hard to see why I like this song. A furious and enjoyable mix of Queen, My Chemical Romance, and Within Temptation, it rocks out over a martial beat and some wonderfully theatrical and at times gothic flourishes. And boy, does it rock! Relentless is designed to be sung along to, loud and proud. You’d be silly to not just do that.

Says guitarist Steven Tobi, “Like most of the songs I write, Relentless began as a riff. Early on, the riff used in the intro and choruses kept sticking out to me, so from there we built the song around that energy … or the lyrical theme, I had been thinking a lot about regret, human nature, cancel culture and the idea that we all have these memories that no one but ourselves know about because we are either too afraid or embarrassed to reveal… the song developed into what we hope is an empowering message to love yourself entirely, both your success and failures. Live a transparent life with no regrets.”
