New Music: Club 8 – Staying Alive

A new month sees another new, rather wonderful, track from Stockholm duo Club 8. I don’t know how they manage to be so prolific and so relentlessly perfect.

April’s Let It All Fly set a high benchmark, like I said on its release, but Staying Alive – no relation to the disco classic by the Bee Gees – outdoes it on every mark.

A departure here is the presence of male vocals on Staying Alive, which, allied to the pacey melody, shifts the terrain of the song slightly from recent singles.

And maybe it’s down to the percussion and vocal phrasing, but I’m also reminded of the gentler side of The Jesus and Mary Chain, particularly songs like Just Like Honey. I could listen to this song all day.
