New Music: BAZAAR – I am the monster

The new single from BAZAAR is forceful from the get-go, its blurred and icy intro like a sharp blow to the chest.

That intensity in the arrangement transforms into a post-punk powerhouse of a track, as the intro thaws to become chilling rather than chilled. With the vocals carrying much of the emotional weight and pain of the song, the fluid ferocity of the arrangement frames that perfectly as the song builds and then deconstructs into a fury of dramatic self-realisation. If you’re a fan of post-punk realism in the style of Sprints and Cliffords, you’re certain to like BAZAAR.

The band sets the song out like the opening scene from a movie: “It’s an ordinary morning, an everyday life scene,” they begin. “You’re having breakfast still in your pajamas, and from another room you hear a conversation. Every effort to feel light falls short, and you end up amused by the discovery that the thing you’re afraid of, that monster hidden in the closet, might actually be you.”
