New Music: Quality Living – Agua Buggalo

The third single from Quality Living’s October-scheduled Glacier album, Agua Buggalo is lo-fi at times but always high power.

Hailing from New Jersey, the quintet cites artists like Modest Mouse, MJ Lenderman, and Pavement not so much as influences but more as bands operating in adjacent spheres of sound. You might not be sure what that’s going to get you, but the result on Agua Buggalo is a fascinating combination of indie rock, dream pop harmonies and a fiery and frayed folk-facing vocal line courtesy of the band’s vocalist, guitarist, songwriter, and producer Darrel Norrell.

Along with bandmates Albert Chua, Chris Foxz, Nick Sardone, and Chris Mulinos, he rewards the listener with a song that is undeniably American, possibly with some Americana in the melody. Its shifting sands never stay still for long, but the band guides you along the way, safe from harm, thanks to Agua Buggalo’s rustic charm.
