New Music: King Blue Heron – Wheat

Ahead of the release of their EP The Breaking Wheel, Pittsburgh’s King Blue Heron has shared the featured track Wheat.

Shoegaze is the beating heart of Wheat, but being from The Steel City, King Blue Heron adds tempered metal to the spine of the track, shifting it from reverie to a place that is emotionally and sonically rawer. It’s not harsh by any means; the smoky arrangement and softened edges of the production see to that. But countering that, the vocals of Emily Hardenberger have a controlled fire to them that cuts through the pleasing haze of the arrangement.
