New Music: Leon Blane – Raise Your Head
Raise Your Head is an ecstatic rush of blood to the heart and adrenaline to the system. Fitting, considering how the song was conceived.
Berlin-based Leon Blane builds on the 80s-facing dark pop of previous single Stereo Dream, a pounding bassline a thrilling contrast to the moodily romantic vocals on Raise Your Head.
Blane holds back from going down a full-on anthemic route; he wants people to listen to the words and absorb the chorus as well as sing along once they open themselves to its pop magic. Courage, self-empowerment, and the power of collective imagination are the driving forces behind the lyrics. It’s a message that is beautifully set within an arrangement that will appeal to fans of Tame Impala, Two Door Cinema Club, and Empire of the Sun: music that is for sharing and celebrating.
“Raise Your Head erupted from me like an explosion,” explains Blane. “It was written and arranged in a single, ecstatic studio session! It was one of those rare moments of flow that we, as artists, cherish so deeply.”
He adds, “It’s a song of understanding, speaking to that feeling we occasionally have at night when we wonder how we can make a difference. That gut feeling, yes.”
Raise Your Head and Stereo Dream are released via colorburst records can be heard on Bandcamp, Spotify, and SoundCloud. For artist and music updates, head to Leon Blane’s Facebook and Instagram feeds.
