New Music: GRAZER – Paradise

Paradise could easily be the soundtrack for your ideal day – or life – delectably harmonious and decidedly heavenly.

GRAZER are Melbourne duo Matt and Mollie, who look to the more mellow strands within 80s indie and 90s shoegaze to weave together their own particular tapestry of chilled guitar pop.

Their latest single, Paradise has something of The Cure circa Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me about it in the guitar melody, a post-punk riff adapted to become a lively indie jangle. It works surprisingly well within the lushly produced, though minimal, arrangement. The vocals set the song on a higher plane, pitched between romantic and rueful, leaving me not quite sure what the track wants me to think. But then, a bit of mystery makes life more interesting, right?
