New Music: The Schla La Las – Hawaiian

South London quintet The Schla La Las’ most recent EP is perfectly formed, with Hawaiian a perfect example.

Sandwiched between 1234 and a cover of Violent Femmes’ Are You Ready on their The Schla La Las Go Wild EP, released on the 18^th of July via No Distance Records, Hawaiian hits an unexpected spot between post-punk and surf-punk, the tight and tribal rhythm finding good company in the surf vibes of the melody.

The most immediate comparison that came to mind for the song was the works of The B-52s, if you can envision Rock Lobster or Love Shack being an uncertain party for two. Hawaiian does have an air of romance to it, slightly camp but not kitschy and maybe with a hint of danger, too.
