New Music: Joy Forever – Forever For Now

Hamburg’s Joy Forever builds on the momentum and emotion of last October’s Brand New Faces album with the genre-fluid Forever For Now.

The quartet ramp up the heartbreak within the lyrics, laden with palpable fragility and uncertainty. It contrasts with the mix of muscular shoegaze and melodic post-punk that carries the arrangement and melody, with the influence of modern Dublin post-punk adding a noticeable frisson to the track.

They say the song comes from “A small tragedy set this song in motion, but we’ll save that story for another time.” But you can detect that there was a degree of turmoil and tension that drives an air of loss and a search for answers that gives Forever For Now its fateful dynamism.
