New Music: IAMX – In Bondage {ArtBleedsMoney Rework}

Christopher Corner’s IAMX were my highlight of this year’s edition of Infest in Manchester, risks being taken, and succeeding.

Never one to sit on his laurels or wary of revising his work, he looked to his past to conceive and curate IAMIXED: Reworks Fault Lines Albums 1 And 2. Released alongside the more intimate UNMASK EP, the listener is treated to reconstructions of tracks like In Bondage.

Where the original on the Fault Lines¹ album has a grandiose and glitchy Cyberpunk 2077 soundscape meets soundtrack quality, as In Bondage {ArtBleedsMoney Rework} it becomes fluid and enclosing. Corner’s vocals remain the focal point, as they are stripped of the confidence of the original, more questioning than demanding. It’s the same song; the meaning isn’t as clear-cut, acting as a balance to the assertive, sensual nature of the parent track.
