New Music: Afghan Sand Gang – Fast Talk

Manchester’s Afghan Sand Gang (Matt Burgess on synths and vocals, Patrick Neville on guitar and vocals, Will Owen on bass, and Johnny James on synths) can be loosely termed an indie band, but unlike so many of their contemporaries, they go for a more dreamy, crafted sound on their track Fast Talk.

The electronic, slightly retro nuances to the arrangement hark back at times to the more individual bands of Manchester’s musical history. James and Stockholm Monsters come to mind in that blending of pop hooks with Krautrock rhythms and shoegaze guitar, but the engaging vocals and warm synths give the track a very modern air. The fusing of such disparate influences into such a smooth and flowing sound is quite a feat by the Mossley boys.
