New Music: Alex Kelman – Chinese Pilot

Published On: March 7th, 2018|

Alex Kelman made a name for himself with critically acclaimed Russian bands Punk TV, Hot Zex, Dsh!Dsh! and TonySoprano. Previously known for more guitar-based sounds, he has launched a more electronically oriented solo project with the track Chinese Pilot being the first release.

With lead vocals by Alexandra Glazunova and backing vocals from Ema Violet, the scene is set for a track heavily influenced by dreampop and shoegaze, but Kelman adds something new to the mix.

There’s the chiming and swirling sounds we’d expect but there’s also some Eastern influences (not surprising from a native of Siberia!). Add to that hectic melange, there’s retro acid stylings and nuances of cold wave that counter-intuitively give the track a feeling or warmth and emotion.

Chinese Pilot is the first single from Alex Kelman´s upcoming U17 which will be released by Superplus Records. The track is also available on Bandcamp and Spotify. He’s touring Europe to tie in with the album and you can find out more here.
