New Music: Belted Sweater – Requiem
The brutal, Swans meet Gary Numan at a Henry Rollins after party vibes of Requiem by Belted Sweater may not be for everyone, but it’s a spectacularly visceral and energising piece of music. Primal and powerful, the rawness of the vocals and percussion hit the listener right in the chest, as the sucker punch of the synths and bass deliver a knockout blow. It’s a real brain cleanser of a tune.
Belted Sweater is the musical project of Christopher Patrick Gregory, a veteran in the L.A. music scene who previously collaborated artists such as queer grindcore legends The HIRS Collective. He says about Requiem, which features on the Health Goth EP, “Being a drummer, the idea was to have the drums be the lead but have synths and shouting about gay shit. That’s kind of my wheelhouse.”
You can pick up Health Goth in digital and cassette versions on Bandcamp. If you liked Requiem and want to hear more from Belted Sweater, head over to Spotify or Apple Music to show them some streaming love.

Belted Sweater have some live dates line up for this April, so be sure to check the band’s Twitter and Instagram feeds for ticket and venue details.
