New Music: Bianca Nisha – River

With her sophomore album out next week and live dates in November, Bianca Nisha charmed us completely with her new single, River.

It’s pop music but approaches the listener from a direction that is unusual and one that deserves to be nurtured. River is led by vocals that are ethereal and emotive, tumbling over an arrangement that is driven by cellos but given added impetus by the forward motions of the synths and percussion.

It showcases a very singular artist and renders songs like River beyond simple categorisation. But, if you’re a fan of the primal tales of Kate Bush and Agnes Obel, the empowering pop of Florence, and the fusion of nature and technology that typifies Aurora, you will find a lot to regale you in River, and the music of Bianca Nisha in general.

“River is about being drawn to something destructive, and the feeling of losing control, as if the current carries you forward whether you want it or not,” says Nisha.
