New Music: Curxes – The Stars, Like Dust

  • New Music: Curxes - The Stars, Like Dust

Hailing from the Isle of Wight in the UK, Curxes is the current project of electronic musician and illustrator Roberta Fidora. On the back of her recent Gilded Cage album she’s picked the track The Stars, Like Dust to get a bespoke and rather unusual video directed by Rob Luckins – viewers of a certain vintage might find it quite endearing, if a bit scary!

Coming from one of the most underrated albums of 2017, The Stars, Like Dust is like a jewel in the night sky, with Fidora’s vocals alternating between a siren-like level of hypnotic passion and a more diffused, languid ambiance.

As she draws you in and then playfully pushes you away, the at times arrthymic tempo and beguiling arrangement channel a Victorian gothic sense of high drama that would put Zola Jesus to shame, with its ability to stir the emotions with the slightest change in tone.

The Stars, Like Dust is out now and also features on Gilded Cage which can be purchased on Bandcamp in digital, vinyl and CD formats, or streamed in its entirety on Spotify. Be sure to check out her Facebook page for upcoming live dates. A third album and EP are currently in production so be sure to keep an eye out for more wonderful music from Curxes later in 2018.
