New Music: Golden Hours – Japan On My Mind

The moody and quietly majestic Japan On My Mind is the latest track to be lifted from Golden Hours’ self-titled album, released earlier this year via Fuzz Club and now onto its second pressing.

The careworn vocals grab the listeners’ attention right from the opening bars of a brooding yet engrossing tome. The band, which contains past and present players in Gang of Four, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Tricky, The Fuzztones, and The Third Sound, create a sound that is highly visual, if not cinematic. In fact, the group does this with so much flair that the track feels and sounds perfect for a Wim Wenders move.

Says band member Wim Janssens, “This song sounds like Tindersticks meets The Flaming Lips playing together in a bar in Tokyo on a rainy night. Eerie synths and sub-bass are topped off with minimal guitar strokes and riffs, followed by an outro that pulls this 4-minute melancholic trip straight into the void.”

Golden Hours is Hákon Adalsteinsson on guitar and vocals, Rodrigo Fuentealba Palavacino on guitar, Tobias Humble on drums and vocals, and Wim Janssens on bass, keys, and vocals).

You can pick up the vinyl edition of Golden Hours on Bandcamp, with other streaming and download options available here.

The band has a European tour lined up this September and October, venue details can be found on the band’s Facebook and Instagram pages.
