Happenings: Desperate Journalist drop Unsympathetic Parts 1 & 2, and announce September release for No Hero album

London quartet Desperate Journalist are back in style with Unsympathetic Parts 1 & 2, the first track to be taken from No Hero, their upcoming fifth album.

Says vocalist Jo Bevan about the track, “This is the first song we wrote specifically as a synth-led track, of which more feature on the album. Lyrically it’s inspired by/fully quotes the John Cassavetes/Gena Rowlands film Opening Night which I had seen for the first time shortly before writing the melody and which had struck me with its simultaneously dreamlike and gritty atmosphere.”

“It seemed an appropriate fit for the swirly yet tense chord progression Rob had come up with. Then I added a vaguely satanic choir chorus, obviously. Part 2 is where everything spirals off into space, oblivion, or some kind of dissociative dreamland.”

Unsympathetic Parts 1 & 2 is out now to stream everywhere including Soundcloud, Apple Music, and Spotify. No Hero is set for release on the 27th of September via fierce panda and is now up for pre-order in a range of coloured vinyl, compact disc and cassette editions right here.

Desperate Journalist tour the UK from September to January to tie in with the release of No Hero, with stop-offs in London, Brighton, Leeds, and Manchester among those already announced.
