New Music: Jana Mila – Like Only Lovers Could
Once you hear the stripped-down indie-flavoured Americana of Jana Mila’s Like Only Lovers Could, you’ll be completely smitten by this teaser for her upcoming Chameleon LP. Fans of Brandi Carlile, First Aid Kit, and Phoebe Bridgers will love this song.
Far removed from the vogue for TikTok-friendly indie-folk, Like Only Lovers Could can nonetheless trace its origin to both of those genres. But the gentle flow of the guitar picking and the mix of crystal clarity and organic warmth of Mila’s vocals brings out something immersive and invigorating in the song; and the listener.
Love can be a simple thing, and that’s something that gives this track – and especially the vocal performance – such an immense emotional impact.
Mila says about Like Only Lovers Could, “The intense and sometimes tumultuous nature of romantic relationships means we can lose ourselves entirely. Love has a way of twisting and turning people around, feeling like the best thing or the worst thing that happened to you. I wanted to capture the turbulence of love.”

Chameleon is released on the 30th of August via New West Records. The album is currently up for pre-order on Bandcamp in vinyl, CD, and digital editions.
Like Only Lovers Could can also be streamed on YouTube and Spotify – check out Amsterdam-based Jana Mila on Facebook and Instagram for further listening options plus album updates.
