New Music: Joy Forever – Two Minds Collide

Hamburg’s Joy Forever say Two Minds Collide marks a new departure for them, allowing their blending of indie rock and post-punk to adventure into openly emotional subjects.

It’s a decision that works wonderfully well here, serving up a track that eschews the mood-driven pitfalls of post-punk and looks into the introspective side of communal indie sounds.

You get a song that leaves the song’s narrator – and the band’s creative and technical abilities – suddenly and permanently exposed. Encapsulating the whirl of emotions and sensory stimuli triggered by love and desire and framing them within a four-minute track isn’t an easy task.

On Two Minds Collide, the band acquits itself with style, centring the vocals and lyrics in the listener’s consciousness, the arrangement full of dark passions, much in the style of Fontaines D.C. and The Murder Capital.

Explains the band’s vocalist and guitarist Mikolas Rendl about the origins of the track, “I often get inspired by images and fleeting scenes around me. Living in a metropolitan city – surrounded by its constant hum and chaos – makes you question what’s real. Passion, love and intimacy rise above all that. It’s real; it’s true.”
