New Music: Kallai – Falling

Falling is the second single from We Are Forever, the debut album from Kallai, and is a must-listen for fans of modern shoegaze.

Kallai reenergise shoegaze on Falling, with the vocals to the fore and the lyrics coming across as concrete and relatable, even as they deal with those moments in love that can often be hard to express in mere words.

An occasional brassy exclamation adds a hint of longing to the arrangement, and even as the guitar melody explores the space between indie and shoegaze, the song is driven along by a rhythm section that owes its dark vigour to post-punk.

It’s a bit Slowdive, but also Drab Majesty and Molchat Doma, and if you think those three can’t exist in the same four minutes or so of music, Falling is here to prove you wrong.

We Are Forever will be released on the 17th of October via Little Cloud Records and is currently up for pre-order in vinyl, cassette, and CD formats on Bandcamp.
