New Music: Mary Ocher – Sympathize (feat. Your Government)

Berlin-based musician Mary Ocher prepares for the release of Your Guide to Revolution – her seventh album – by revealing this stunning and thought-provoking video for featured song Sympathize.

Breaking down the walls between pop and Avant Garde music, as well as pop culture and the political sphere; Sympathize works wonderfully as both as art and as polemic.

The song seeks to stir the listener in to action, moving us from the scrolling, swiping, and liking that some would like us to view as activism. The pop-rock energy of the arrangement doesn’t distract from the lyrics, instead giving them a memorable foundation on which to effectively engage the listener.

Ocher views the album as a message of hope for the present and future, though that doesn’t stop the artist from touching on difficult subjects. Sympathize tackles the trivialisation of civilian deaths by cynical politicians attempting to sway public opinion. Your Guide to Revolution is set for release on the 14^th of June via Underground Institute and is now up for pre-order in vinyl and digital editions on Bandcamp. Mary Ocher embarks on a series of live dates in the coming weeks; with dates in Stockholm, Copenhagen, Nijmegen, and Berlin already pencilled in. The Berlin date will also be the official launch party for Your Guide to Revolution.
