New Music: Molly Horses – King Dundalk

Los Angeles outfit Molly Horses are busy working on their debut album, and have given us a taste of the noisy goodness to come on King Dundalk. The band says the song is about “letting your ego ruin you,” but if you make music as good as this, you can allow yourself some slack.

You can hear the influence of acts like Pile and Protomartyr in the wry vocals and bass driven swagger of the song. But it’s the motorik energy of the arrangement that draws you in, as the wry lyrics are brought to life by an intense, almost spoken word vocal delivery.

The vibrant and focused take on post-punk and alt.rock in the vocals and guitar melody shouldn’t be a surprise, though, as members of FonFon Ru and Ted Leo & The Pharmacists make up part of Molly Horses’ lineup.
