New Music: MOLTENO x Tuval – Interlines

London-based MOLTENO has made quite the name for herself in the last few years with her fusions of trip-hop with more rock-oriented sounds. For one thing, we were quite taken with Ocean, her release from July this year. Her collaboration with dreamy psych-popper Tuval sees her push her musical boundaries even further.

The song’s hazy and darkly enticing euphoria feels like a passage from an art-house sci-fi film. MOLTENO’s vocals have a clear, razor-sharp quality to them that cuts through the misty, spacey tones of the arrangement, almost but not quite escaping the more grounded but melodic vocals of Tuval. The latter bears some similarities to Robert Alfons, which adds to the blurring of emotions and sensations, giving both singers a chance for their performances to quietly ensnare the listener.

MOLTENO has this to say about the track: ‘Interlines is about what’s not said, the lines between, that place where moving slow can mean fast, where time feels distorted.’ That’s a sensation that is boosted by the approach the duo took to recording the song says Tuval: ‘With the production, I went for a floaty mythical synth sound inspired by Kedr Livanksiy; and saturated and manipulated sounds to add dissonance.’

Interlines is out now and available to stream or download on all major platforms including Spotify. Be sure to check MOLTENO out over on Facebook and Twitter and maybe throw her a follow or two to keep up with news about the song, upcoming releases and more.
