New Music: Ocean Tisdall – Vintage Dreams

Ocean Tisdall’s Boys Don’t Cry 4-track EP is all killer and not filler. Vintage Dreams – a musical essay in shattered dreams and silver screens – is wonderful example of his craft and a particular highlight of the EP.

Tisdall’s voice sits somewhere between Sam Smith and The Weeknd, soul and pop in perfect unison. The power and presence of the melody ebbs and flows in time with the emotional turmoil of the lyrics. Complementing that, Tisdall is often the only thing to be heard as the arrangement drops away completely.

The structure of the song frames the lyrics and vocals perfectly, emotionally affecting without ever being overbearing. Vintage Dreams is three minutes of heartache as art.

Says Tisdall, “Vintage Dreams is about someone who makes you fall for them and makes you feel like you have that vintage love that belongs on the big screen. But they were just the best actor and made you believe they loved you and they had alternative motives.”
