New Music: Promise and the Monster – Beating Heart
The tastemakers of fine Nordic pop that are the Icons Creating Evil Art record label have delivered another gem in the form of Promise and the Monster (Billie Lindahl) and the understated mood music of their track Beating Heart.
Working again with producer Love Martinsen, who worked with her on 2016’s Feed The Fire album, the song has her signature style of wry and witty lyrics delivered over a shimmering, sophisticated soundtrack of classic Scandinavian electro. Think of the music of ionnalee and Fever Ray, though with more of an accessible-sounding aesthetic – quality music, created for those who like their pop to have substance.
Speaking about the new single, Billie said, “Beating Heart is about two sisters watching each other’s back through adulthood. One of them is more reckless though so the other one has a lot to do. It was fun recording the song since it got bigger and bigger all the time, like a suitcase full of random stuff.”
Beating Heart is out now via Icons Creating Evil Art and can also be streamed on Deezer, Apple Music, and Spotify. Head over to her Facebook account of Promise and the Monster to discover more listening options and keep up with news about new releases.
