New Music: River Rojas – Lovergirl

New Music: River Rojas – Lovergirl

Published On: July 20th, 2026|

While River Rojas divulges that Lovergirl is something of an outlier on her as-yet-unreleased EP, it is a rather gorgeous and stunning one.

It’s part of an EP that in itself becomes one part of a greater story, one where the artist and her collaborators have conceived and then created a sci-fi world within which the songs and their central characters exist. It explores a sci-fi-inspired love story between two polar-opposite WLW (women-loving women) extraterrestrials, Oryn and Aelis.

In Lovergirl, Rojas touches on the complications, pain, and pleasure of love, where you feel like your life hangs on waiting for a message, wanting more but also not wanting to rush things. Just as the song needs to function as a piece of world-building, it also opens us to the beginning of the relationship, tentative, tender, and uncertain.

Rojas’ vocals are suitably cinematic and emotive, subtly played out over a dream pop arrangement that has whispers of Mazzy Star, Cigarettes After Sex, Lana Del Rey, and Beach House.

States Rojas, “I’ve been quietly building a universe over the past year, and I’m so incredibly excited to finally invite you in. Lovergirl started on my mother’s piano in Mexico; from there, it travelled across the world to England.”

Lovergirl is out now, and you can hear it on Apple Music, Spotify and SoundCloud – for other listening alternatives, click here. For news on the EP and to get to know River Rojas, follow her on TikTok or Instagram.
