With the release of their Dark Synthetics on CD and tape formats rapidly approaching, Asheville death rock band Secret Shame have dropped a last warm-up single, the swirling starkness that is Gift.

With a very spiky take on the 80s post-punk and deathrock sound, the track tempers its muscular sonic edge with a sublime performance from vocalist Lena. Somewhere between Elisabeth Frazer and Siouxie Sioux, they deliver an unusual but effective fusion to give the song added tonal layers.

That edgy etherality syncs well with the songs effortless switching from stark rhythms to crashing crescendos as if at the flick of a switch. Evoking the best of the past whilst avoiding the danger of merely copying it, Gift is like a breath of fresh air blowing away the cobwebs from a classic genre.

Dark Synthetics by Secret Shame is now up for pre-order so be  sure to check out their TwitterInstagram and Facebook accounts for more details about the album. Tying in with the release of the album, the band have a live date on  September 8th in Richmond, Virginia. The band have an official release party on the 16th in their home town of Ashville .
