New Music: Soft No – Take Your Word

Though all are experienced musicians in their own right, it’s still hard to believe that the collective behind Soft No have been together for just a year. That’s in large part down to the confident and caustic tones of tracks like Take Your Word.

The quintet brings a lot of the 90s to the table in the bruising tones that dominate the listener from the opening seconds. Smashing Pumpkins and Hole come to mind, though it threads some elements of hardcore and shoegaze on a song that is densely woven in terms of tone and texture, yet light and full of righteous energy.  

Reveals vocalist Allie Lannutti about the lyrics, which no doubt inspired her barnstorming vocal performance, “Take Your Word is an amalgamation of (mostly) dudes with fragile egos I’ve encountered over the years who I chose to listen to against my better judgment and not stand up for myself.”

Take Your Word is out now via Abandon Everything Records. The track can be downloaded on Bandcamp and streamed on Apple Music and Spotify.
