New Music: splint – Continuing Endless

One of the best and brightest lights of the increasingly influential Calder Valley music scene, splint celebrate the success of their current tour by releasing Continuing Endless.

The song plays about with some notional shoegaze and alt.rock sounds and styles, teasing their boundaries to create something chunkier and rawer in terms of tone and texture.

The lead vocals add a layer of honey to that gritty ambience, so that the overall sensation is one of being soothed and shocked in turn. It reminds of both Velvet Underground and The Birthday Party: two very different bands, but a good guide to the duality at the heart of Continuing Endless.

The band is current in the midst of a UK tour, with dates in Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield, and Halifax – the latter at the rather excellent venue The Grayston Unity – lined up in the coming weeks.

Continuing Endless is out now via Nice Swan and is streaming on all major platforms including Apple Music, YouTube, and Spotify. The track and previous singles such as 145 and Awaiting Hills also available to download on Bandcamp.
