New Music: talker – Strangers

The last single before her Runaway Jane album comes out, Strangers sees talker team up with members of LA electro-pop trio Moontower on writing duties.

The music of talker, the music persona of Angeles songwriter Celeste Tauchar, regularly features on the blog thanks to her way of finding the simple truth within complex emotional situations. That is certainly the case with Strangers, where she strips away the words and deeds that obscure the fact that a relationship isn’t working, no matter how much you want it to.

Tuachar and her band could easily have transposed that turmoil onto the arrangement, but instead look at how reality has dawned; it’s now about acceptance and moving on, and that needs to be done sensitively and with grace. Don’t misunderstand me; Strangers is an indie rocker, but one that makes you look within yourself and find peace with what needs to be done. She has spoken about how the new album focuses on what happens after you tell the truth in a relationship, and it’s shaping up to be a revealing experience.

“There are a lot of reasons that two people can become strangers,” Celeste explains. “Often, time just pulls people in different directions, there’s too much distance, or you just grow apart. This song is about what happens when you want to stay close to someone so badly but the energy it takes to get through to them is more like a dying star than a spark.”
