New Music: The Sonic Trees – Silence

Synthwave with a whole lot of soul, Silence is the latest single from Berlin-based electronic group, The Sonic Trees.

Even in the noisiest moments, there can be brief respites of quietness in our lives, but when it’s digital noise that never stops, what do you do? These days, that noise comes not just from the city around us but also from our phones and laptops – and even if we filter them, we are still exposed to the cacophony and confusions of those around us.

Silence actually has an inner stillness to it, a rolling, revolving aspect that is soothing, as the lyrics achieve a mantra-like and escapist state of being. The band doesn’t judge anyone for doing this but does point out pitfalls of avoidance and the false economy of an emotional or digital clean slate.

“This track explores the concept of emotional and digital muting. Life is reduced to a ‘loop’ or a ‘soft reboot, where ignoring the mess becomes a survival script,” states the band.

“It isn’t trying to comfort you or rally you; it’s holding up a mirror to how good we’ve all become at staying quiet while everything burns.”
