New Music: Wet Leg – Wet Dream

Wet Leg (Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers) went viral with their debut single Chaise Longue, its mixture of intensity and ennui capturing the essence of 2021 in a few short minutes. Wet Dream sees them follow up that track with another slice of sublime, sharp indie-pop.

There’s a Britpop-esque charm to Wet Dream. Marrying indie riffs with pop beats, it has a chart-friendly sound, while keeping an outsider edge to proceedings. It eschews the arm-waving emptiness of Oasis or Country House era Blur that is one of the lingering downside of the Britpop era. Think Elastica and The Breeders, but filtered through a Stereolab gauze and emboldened by some Pixies-type steel, and you’ll capture the enjoyable bubblegum brashness that gives the song its unique energy.

Wet Dream is out now via Domino Recording Co and can be listened to on all major digital platforms, including Apple Music and Spotify, and downloaded on Bandcamp.
