New Music: Automatic Fiction – The Pascaline
Bordeaux is known for both its perfectly attended vineyards wines and its wild, untamed surroundings. One listen to The Pascaline tells you that those contradictory elements have made their way into the majestic music of Automatic Fiction.
Lise Data’s vocals have a quality similar to Charlotte Gainsbourg and Beth Gibbons, combining a sense of knowing with a feeling of awe.
The arrangement creates wonders of its own, taking the most mundane and everyday things and giving them life while the drums and the guitar help to create someone to be enjoyed, savoured and loved.
The euphoria-inducing melody provides the stunningly concise backdrop for lyrics that detail the searching and confusion that are a part of modern life; wanting more, wanting actualisation, and knowing it’s out there, but instead grasping at air as we seek an answer.
The Pascaline is out now and can also be streamed or downloaded via the Automatic Fiction Bandcamp page. The trio are working on new music to be released in the next few months, so keep an eye on Facebook for more news.
